Responsible for the administration and marketing of Career Development Services (CDS) for the University, including all career planning and placement services to part-time, full-time, undergraduate, and graduate students and alumni. The Director provides leadership, creativity, and vision for the Center. The Director is responsible for making recommendations to the Vice President of Student Affairs and relevant college and university advisory bodies regarding the development of policies, budget, personnel and programs pertaining to career planning provided to UNE student. The advancement of career development as a retention tool for UNE students is a critical role of this position. Serving graduates; creating partnerships with businesses and entities aimed at developing educational and career opportunities for UNE students and alumni; developing a pre-professional career advising program, and consulting with relevant constituencies within the University. The Director is responsible for raising the visibility and reputation of UNE students and graduates to employers through effective marketing and networking techniques; developing and implementing fresh strategies for Career Development Services in accordance with its mission statement; and providing leadership for the planning, direction and administration of the overall operational functions of Career Development Services at UNE. The Director must be a visionary, innovative, and highly collaborative leader with the ability to purposefully facilitate strategic outreach, shape organizational development, and prioritize a wide array of projects. The Director must be entrepreneurial and able to cultivate productive relationships with employers, alumni and the campus community; manage and grow employer-relations and on-campus recruitment programs; promote internship programs sponsored by the colleges; and all other placement initiatives. Additionally the Director will collaborate with academic administrators to identify, define, and meet student career development needs, goals and objectives through coordination of career programs with academic departments, alumni and parent programs as well as other internal constituencies. The Director will manage annual budgets for Career Development Services along with overseeing CDS staff. Responsibilities Primary Set vision, mission and direction for Career Development Services. Builds partnerships between University and external communities (business, public sector, and not for profit) to facilitate employer recruitment of UNE students and alumni. Tracks employment trends for UNE majors and programs and communicates these to the deans, department chairs, Admissions, UNE Community, and families. Ensures that effective, contemporary, professional and responsive programs are designed and implemented to meet student needs. Directs the development of a four year model for undergraduate engagement, as well as a model for graduate and professional students. Coordinates programs and workshops to assist students in identifying employment opportunities in their selected fields. Oversees selection and use of employment inventories (such as personality, interest and aptitude, etc.). Oversees daily "on-campus" employment interviewing for all graduating students and alumni with companies and organizations. Ensures an appropriate student and alumni job search process and procedures. Ensures that occupational, educational and economic information is collected, organized and used for career placement. Promotes the success of alumni and chronicles their career pathways. Oversees coordination with faculty, department chairs, and deans in providing career ervices for UNE students and alumni. Establishes liaisons for each academic and administrative department to increase utilization and successful outcomes. Ensures that Career Development Services works with internship offices, associate provosts, deans, chairs, program coordinators and faculty in promoting internship opportunities at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Develops a strong relationship with the academic advisors and systems in all colleges and schools to develop maps for career paths linked with all majors in the arts and sciences plus health professions. Ensures that there are consistent procedures, criteria and evaluation for all services. Provides individual and group career counseling, outreach, and information about career testing services. Ensures that career programs and seminars for student groups, clubs, and organizations are designed and delivered. Ensures that there is an active on-line presence including interactive web site, blogs, use professional social networking sites, and resume/job skill applications. Promotes student success by implementing strategies that maximize student satisfaction, recruitment and retention. Establishes and maintains a Career Development Advisory Board of internal constituents as well as a Business and Professional Roundtable for external partners in industry and professional fields appropriate for UNE majors and their career pathways. Conducts research to track the successes and patterns of our alumni employment by major in order to explore the questions of the rate of return on the investment for the University of New England education. Collaborate with faculty, department chairs, deans, and program directors to capture the career success stories of UNE’s current students and alumni. Collaborate with the Director of Alumni Development to link current students and alumni in their career exploration and job search processes. Secondary Represent the University and CDS to off campus community groups, business and industry agencies or individuals as assigned. Serve on University committees as assigned. Qualifications Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling and/or Placement/Personnel field or a related field, plus 5 years of relevant experience. Proven track record for developing, implementing and directing a state-of-the-art Career Center. Possess excellent interpersonal skills in the areas of collaboration, team participation, creative problem solving, conflict resolution, decision making, and effectively interacting with diverse constituencies. Demonstrated excellence in program development, marketing, and assessment. Demonstrated expertise in data analysis related to career accomplishments. Demonstrated expertise in presentation and public relations skills. Previous experience in Higher Education. Previous demonstration of a high degree of professional ethics. Demonstrated management and leadership skills. Demonstrated expertise in the employment of social networking tools related to career development and networking. Knowledge of the career process and employment trends. Demonstrated ability to work with Parent Association, Alumni and Development. Participation in professional and community groups. Excellent communication skills required.
